Status: Pre-Production
Role: Solo Developer
I’ve always been fascinated by daikaiju films – Japanese monster movies like Godzilla and Gamera – and ten years ago I set out to make my first large-scale indie game: Thunder Highway! A top-down shooter where the player pilots a Cold War-era jet in 1958, flying in formation with other steely-eyed pilots as the threat of Soviet invasion collides with a kaiju threat emerging from the deeps of the South China sea!
Featuring an alternate history where nuclear testing gave rise to massive super carriers, able to launch four navy jets simultaneously, with gameplay centered around upgrading pilots and planes with new equipment, abilities, and advanced prototype weaponry. Fight off the kaiju threatening nearby civilian populations and allied bases, and fend off the opportunistic sorties of encroaching Soviet forces!
Now that I’ve had time away from other productions, I’ve picked up the design where I left off: moving onto full production! Originally prototyped in Unity 4, now being fully rebuilt with the power of Unreal 5!
Have a look at some videos and concept images showing the work-in-progress from the original prototype to the new Unreal 5 preview!
