Below you will find examples of my work in AAA and indie game studios creating player experiences through gameplay scripting, level designs, cinematics, narrative gameplay and quests, as well as personal projects creating material textures, VFX, sound effects, music and more!
I'm Sami Pesola, an indie game designer and AAA level designer, cinematics designer, and technical narrative designer. You'll see below some of the projects that I've created and where I've been part of a great creative team, but most of all I am a problem solver. Whether scripting the intricacies of narrative dialogue flow, or creating atmospheric player experiences, I devote my craft to the creation of mystifying experiences and enticing player agency - in their story, the player is the starring role, and my work is to support that reality.
Most recently I've been working as a technical narrative designer on Housemarque's newest AAA game as part of Sony's Playstation Studios. Details on this project are still very unrevealed!
Before this I was a cinematic designer on Housemarque's breakout hit Returnal, implementing dozens of cinematics and creating the spooky atmosphere of the narrative levels, like the House and Hospital narrative sequences!
This means that I've worked as a level designer and cinematic designer primarily!
I was also a level designer and cinematic designer on Control, moving from one department to the other as the needs of the project evolved - much like the Oldest House (within which the game takes place!)
I even pitched in as a cinematic designer on the second installment of CrossfireX, editing and implementing VFX, cinematic scripting, and level triggers to bring the explosive action to life!
Meanwhile, outside of the AAA sphere of Finland's top gameplay studios, I've spent a considerable amount of time making indie games and free mods for popular games, amassing millions of downloads!
